“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013.” We took our friends’ 3 kids for a day this weekend. Wild! |
On the RangeNovember 5 – 11, 2013
{On the Range} is my weekly series where I discuss what we’re doing, reading, and eating. It’s a little bit 52 project and other photo projects, and a little bit {Did you Read?} and {In the Ranger Kitchen}
- Vivi officially completed her first musical on Saturday night! She amazes me in her ability to try everything and do even the activities that scare her or make her nervous. Thus when she had to stay up late on Saturday night, she was just fine and I was the one who was tired.
- As for the show itself, she handled it about as I expected her to, in that she was the only kid up there who constantly fidgeted with her costume, tried to engage the other singers in conversations mid-song, and waved to us in the audience. But I say she gave the audience what they paid for! They laughed like crazy, and we had many people coming up to us after the shows to tell us what a stitch she is. Meanwhile, my mom pointed out that Nate and I were like a couple of Steve Martins (ala Parenthood), wincing and chuckling at various moments during the show.
- Here are videos I took (one during the dress rehearsal):
My week…
- Our crazy busy week of musicals and rummage sales has ended with three of us coming down with a virus.
- I had a great birthday! It was full of granted wishes, cookies and chocolates, and these birthday doughnuts…yes, that IS bacon:
Media
- DIY air freshener! I love the idea of putting a little faux tree in the jar so the baking soda looks like snow.
- I normally don’t get sucked into buying too many new clothes for my girls, but I am in love with this whole outfit (boots and all) by Hanna Anderson
- I am writing an article about perfectionism and appreciated this article about how it relates to creativity from the current Rhythm of the Home.
Meals
- smitten kitchen’s brisket from her cookbook (verdict: I found it to be a bit sweet and preferย my grandma’s simple recipe
- orange-glazed sablefish with broccoli
- Chinese orange chicken (Vivi’s favorite meal, which she requested as a celebration of her participation in the Mikado…& it can be made at the same time as the fish above)
What do y’all have going on this week?
